Making Nancy's Quilt

After having everyone at work sign the center of the snowball blocks, I pieced all of the blocks. 32 9-patch blocks and 32 snow ball blocks. This is the equivalent of 576 - 3" squares.

Here are the blocks laid out on the floor so that I could arrange them before assembling the quilt top.

I numbered each block so that I was sure that I could get them sewn together in the correct order.

I assembled all of the blocks and sewed them together so that the top is finished.

Here is the top, the batting, and the backing, sandwiched together and pinned with safety pins. It is ready to be quilted. More than 300 safety pins were required for this quilt.

I decided to quilt with horizontal and vertical lines 3 inches apart.

Here is the quilt rolled up so that it will fit through the throat of the sewing machine.

Piecing and Quilting this quilt required just a little less than half a mile of thread.
