I attended a gathering of people who own and use People Powered Machines. That is, Treadles and Hand Cranks. I got a Singer Model 15 Hand Crank, a Singer 401 (electric) and two Singer 221 Featherweights.
Pictures of the gathering are here:
Florida TOGA 2007 High resolution pictures for a fast internet connection. Suitable for printing.
Florida TOGA 2007 Lower resolution pictures suitable for a slow internet connection and for viewing on a computer monitor.
The group also made a pinwheel quilt for the Quilting Angels, the charity group that I help. I'll be quilting it later.

A friend from work asked to to finish three quit tops that were made by her grandmother. They had been stored in a garage and were not in good shape. Here are pictures of one of the tops. Note the damage.
The hand piecing was done in relatively large stitches, about 5 stitches per inch. The quilter patched the top using any fabric she had at hand. In several places, the patch was simply stitched over the damaged area and left with unfinshed edges showing.

Another of the quilts that I was asked to repair and finish.
This one had more damage than the others but turned out OK.
September 2007
A baby quilt for James, one of my wife's cousins. The cross stitching of the letters was done on my embroidery machine. The pictures on the red and white fabric are pictures of fire plugs, fire hats, fire dogs, etc. James' dad is a fireman.

Alyssa, a second grader of family friends, sometimes stays at our house when her parents travel. She finally got around to asking me to make her a quilt. I told her that I would but only if she helped. She chose the fabrics for the pinwheels, laid them out after I had cut them, and did some of the sewing.
When I got ready to assemble the top, my wife informed me that Alyssa likes cats, so cat fabric went into the top.
People often ask me why I don't sell my quilts instead of giving them away. The answer is in the note at the right. You can't put a price tag on a thank you note like that.

December 2007
I bought a Pfaff 130 electric sewing machine. The motor was not attached because the owner wanted to try to treadle it but never got around to trying. I thought that I would give it a try.
I managed to get it into a Singer cabinet and it worked OK, but because the wheel was so small, it was slow and heavy.
